2 nights and 3 days Camel trek to Erg chigaga

Day 1 : M’hamid – Oued Naam

After loading your luggage on camels from our camp in M’hamid or Hotel, you start your Camel Trip from M’hamid on the edge of the desert through the beautiful desert landscapes towards Erg Chigaga dunes. After few hours riding, you stop for lunch under the shade of a tamarisk tree. Afterwards, we will be served a cup of  Moroccan Mint tea, which will spur us on for the next three hours ridding until we reach Oued Naam, near where we will set up our camp for the night, and have dinner under a starlit sky.

Day 2 : Oued Naam – Erg Chigaga Dunes

After breakfast, you will have an optional hour of camel ride. Afterward, you will travel with 4×4 jeeps to reach the immense dunes of Erg Chigaga. You reach an Oasis where lunch will be enjoyed under the shade of palm trees with a source of water. Then, you will join the sand dunes of Erg Chigaga. This largest group of sand dunes is at a height of 300 m on a length of 40 km. Dinner and night either under the stars or in the nomad tent in the bivouac.

Day 3 : Erg Chigaga Dunes – M’hamid

After an unforgettable sunrise upon the dunes, breakfast is served in the bivouac and this wonderful desert journey ends back with the 4×4 Jeeps in M’hamid around 10 A.M.

WHEN TO GO?

The period for trekking in the desert runs from first October to End of April.

October still has rather warm day-time temperatures, very pleasant evenings. Night-time lows of around freezing in December / January. But winter light conditions are beautiful, due to the low winter sun. Possibility of a light rain shower in March. The desert is in bloom and camel calves are grazing. Early April sees the arrival of higher temperatures.

EASY LEVEL: trekking time between 3-5 hours per day.

TAKE WITH YOU

  • Equipment: Good walking shoes (not heavy) walking sandals, sleeping bags, sportswear type sweaters and parkas in winter.
  • Nomadic turbans are very useful.
  • Provide also: flashlight, Swiss army knife, matches, sun glasses, something to read, hygienic wet wipes, small plastic bags to put your toilet waste.
  • Do not forget the usual medicines.

FOOD

Breakfast, picnic lunch, snacks, hot meal in the evening. TEAM: guide, cooker,camels.
TREKKING PROCEDURE: The group travels on foot; luggage, camping equipment and supplies for the trek are transported by camel. (it is possible ride camels during the trek).
